All I Need is You I could sit in the darkness in the daytime There was nothing I couldn’t resolve I could wrap up the truth and keep it covered There were riddles that no one could solve I was up to nothing good and You were there by mistake Pulled my head up off the wood For goodness sake All I need right now is you, babe You’re all that I want, babe All I need is you It was easy to soak it for a weekend It was harder to pack up the pain It was simple to walk out to the beachhead Standing solo again and again No one cared or understood it No one bothered to ask Some things make you want to hide Behind a mask All I need right now is you, babe You’re all that I want, babe All I need is you It was cold in my neighbor’s apartment He was gone for a couple of days Then I discovered a secret compartment And stayed for a while in the maze You came in and made me better Than I thought I could be It’s been nice to have you standing next to me All I need right now is you, babe You’re all that I want, babe

Get You Off My Mind When it's dark in the holy land I don't need you to hold my hand Come and see my mid-century and lock your self away From this hill I can see it all Change the station from wonderwall She's the friend 'til the end who's always gone by yesterday I can do anything I want I can do anything I try I can do anything but Get You Off My Mind Drive the car on the canyon roads Pump it up 'til it overloads Late at night there's a light ahead that takes my thoughts away There's a scene playing in my head And regret lying in my bed Take apart what I start and it will get me clear again I can do anything I want I can do anything I try I can do anything but Get You Off My Mind Take what you like What you like is the only thing I can do anything I want I can do anything I try I can do anything but Get You Off My Mind

Don’t Let It Go To Your Head You swing harder than I ever did And you’re way smarter than I am, kid You succeed where I fail Persevere when I bail Sometimes you make me flip my lid So, Don’t let it go to your head But I love you Your songs fill up the house every day You always manage to get your own way You leave nothing inside And my heart swells with pride And you always always have something to say So, Don’t let it go to your head But I love you You do so many things I adore And you leave all of your things on the floor You have stolen my wife But you brighten my life And sometimes I’m shaken to my core So, Don’t let it go to your head But I love you

I Can’t Stop In ‘55 they built from nothing, this house of cards concealing something And now you’re hiding out from me A school of fish that gives you cancer, you shook them off like a belly dancer And now you’ve gotten rid of me And I can’t stop thinking ‘bout you, baby my Mind goes “pop” and I’m doing it again I can’t stop and you’re driving me crazy Gotta find a way to lose you, or I’ll never win You looked too sad to be Italian, you called my friends the dim batallion My deal was sealed at 12:09 It felt so strange, it took forever. You said you’re dangerously put together And I was hooked upon your line And I can’t stop thinking ‘bout you, baby my Mind goes “pop” and I’m doing it again I can’t stop and you’re driving me crazy Gotta find a way to lose you, or I’ll never win The rusted cans in greenish water, I came to see. A lamb to slaughter You could have had me anytime. Pull up the rug and draw the curtain. Just like a drug I knew for certain That I’m the last thing on your mind And I can’t stop thinking ‘bout you, baby my Mind goes “pop” and I’m doing it again I can’t stop and you’re driving me crazy Gotta find a way to lose you, or I’ll never win

Slow Dancing 07:06
Slow Dancing The lease on this car is almost expired It’s good transportation but it’s old and it’s tired I treated her badly and took her for granted And there’s dents on the passenger side I drive to the west side where under the lights He’s playing the songs that keep me up at night He’s telling our story, I’m not sure how he knows it But there’s memories inside every line Yeah, there’s memories inside every line We should be Slow Dancing But I’m standing here alone tonight I love this song, and I know it’s your favorite All the time that we’ve lost, I’m beginning to crave it He plays like it’s simple, he sings like it’s easy And the future is weighing on my mind Yeah the future is weighing on my mind We should be Slow Dancing But I’m standing here alone tonight I like the way he blends the lyric with the tune I’d sing it to the moon, but something tell me I’m gonna be alone soon Back to the house, the freeway gets slower There’s a woman at home that I don’t even now We used to be lovers but now it’s a mystery But I’m trying hard to figure it out Yeah I’m trying hard to figure it out We should be Slow Dancing But I’m standing here alone tonight

about

A couple words about how we made this record.

I didn’t make this record. “We” made this record. The we in question is a pretty long list of people who were kind enough to lend their talents and do it really just for the fun of it.

Here’s what happened. I had a few old songs and a couple new ones. I was planning on recording something “live in the garage” or something like that. However, the idea of remote recording was floating around because of everyone quarantining, so I decided to give it a shot.

I had very little fancy gear at home, but I had enough to get a passable acoustic guitar and vocal sound. So, with that in mind, I recorded acoustic guitar and vocal and sent those files off to Scott Seiver. Scott was kind enough to play the drums and also played the role of producer. Producing on this project pretty much meant getting the files to and from people. I was really committed to not guiding people in their performances too much. “Send the files off and hope for the best” was the approach. For the most part we stuck to it.

Jon Button and Dan Rothchild are two amazing bassists, and I'm lucky enough to be friends with them, so they took care of the bass duties and did an amazing job. Once that was done, we started sending mp3s of the vocal, acoustic, drums and bass to the keyboard players.

It’s weird to me that until I moved to LA the idea of recording with a B3 wasn’t even on my radar. When I was calling my friends to play keys on this record, all four of them had B3s at home to record with. Jordan Summers plays some lovely organ and a proggy arpeggiated thing that makes me giggle every time I hear it. Mike Bluestein took my direction of “can we do something that sounds like I Got You by Split Enz” and just killed it. Rami Jaffe reminded me why I love playing with him and how much I miss it. Unfortunately that damn Dave Grohl keeps him busy most of the time. And finally, Chris Joyner, who altered the course of the last album, comes through like I knew he would.

The guitars were done by a gang of people. Geoff Pearlman, Brett Farkas, Emeen Zarookian, Bob Riley, and Danny DelaMatyr. They’re all guys that I have loved playing with, so I was confident that they’d do something cool and they all did.

In the midst of all this, Scott kept track of who did what and kept the balls in the air. I am very grateful that he did. The recording process would have been kind of a mess if I had to keep track of all that stuff. Finally, John Spiker put the finishing touches on it by doing a stellar job of mixing and mastering. He’s just the best.

So, here's our offering in the midst of these weird times. Since we can't go out and see music, we should at least be making new music for people to enjoy.

Enjoy.
