LIner Notes

How this record was made:

Like a lot of records made these days, one takes one’s harddrive to different studios and uses many engineers and musicians. This record is no exception.

I started recording this at Fernando Perdomo’s Reseda Ranch Studio. I had a bunch of songs, but only Disaster Days remains from those sessions. After writing a few more songs, I began recording at Studio 428. I was doing everything myself, but didn’t love the results. Only Kerosene remains from those sessions. Geoff Pearlman and Ted Russel Kamp were kind enough to record things with me that never made the record, but I want to thank them. I was working on My Gun Let Me Down and I realized that I was gonna need a ringer piano player to play what I wanted to hear. One thing led to another and Chris Joyner talked me into recording at Fox Force Five with JJ Blair engineering. Jon Button (Bass), Mark Stepro (Drums) and Adam Zimmon (Guitar) filled out the ensemble and we tracked the majority of the record. Rich Hinman and Chris Joyner came back for a day of overdubs at Fox Force Five. Dan Rothschild was kind enough to offer his studio to do background vocals. Dan, Danny and I sang together and it was rad. While on tour in Chicago I stopped off at Electrical Audio and recorded acoustic guitar and vocals with Taylor Hales engineering. I was almost done tracking, but I did want Fernando to play on it, so he added a little guitar to Something Wrong With Love. Scott Seiver helped me with the percussion at his Loma Lada Studio. Finally, I did a few more overdubs at Studio 428 and then started mixing. I got the mixes pretty close and then brought them to John Spiker to push it over the finish line.
